Phil Brady’s
4848 Government St.

Every Red Sticker knows about this quintessential Baton Rouge institution known for live music, but have you ever bothered to go?  No.  Well, why not? Phil Brady’s is a true neighborhood dive that set up shop on Government Street more than 30 years ago.  A plastic Spuds MacKenzie dressed for St. Paddy’s day presides over the dark wood bar.  Various beer advertisements and pictures of entertainers past cover the walls.  Locals drink domestics and buy each other Goldschlager shots to celebrate a win at the pool table. The wine flows out of those little airplane-sized bottles.

Tuesday is open mic night and on Thursdays there’s a local blues jam.  Bands pack the house on the weekends.  But if you need cheap eats, Monday night is $1 burger night! Folks, for $1, this burger isn’t bad at all.  It even comes fully dressed.  Add fries, jalapeno poppers, or cheese sticks for an extra $2.  Then after you eat, you can play a game of free pool.  (DBG and her Protector shot a game that could have qualified them to participate in the Special Olympics.)

If you want to pop in for lunch, they have $5 lunch specials on the weekdays.

The only downside to Phil Brady’s?  Well, it is a dive…so it is super smoky.Image
