Roma Pizza

17888 Airline Highway

Prairieville, LA

What does DBG miss about NYC?  Brownstones covered in ivy, the sense that you might could randomly run into anyone at anytime, pubs run by Irishmen, the leaves in Central Park turning orange and yellow for autumn, and getting delicious pizza by the slice.

Roma Pizza in Prairieville fills the void.  If you want authentic, New York hand-tossed thin crust pizza, Roma is worth the drive.  It doesn’t look like much from the outside, just a spot in a non-descript strip mall, next to a McDonalds. And the décor is pretty bare bones. But Roma is the real deal. Omar, the owner is originally from Italy and New York.  When he isn’t making pizza or giving directions to customers who got lost along the way, he is chatting with the locals who stop in for a visit.

And if you go at lunch on the weekdays, you can buy it buy the slice, just like in NYC.

Citizens of Prairieville, there is no excuse for you to eat at Pizza Hut, Domino’s, Papa John’s or Little Caesar’s.

Now all we need is a Chicago deep dish place so DBG doesn’t have to make it from scratch.  Want the recipe?  Shoot her an email.
