DBG did not get out and about to review a new honky tonk this week because her Protector has been under the weather, but she assures you she has been the best candy striper ever.  Before he took ill, Poolboy served DBG’s Protector an Old Fashioned on the veranda and it was agreed upon by all that the Old Fashioned should be the drink of the summer.  Poolboy says use rye whiskey, but Maker’s does well enough.  Mash a slice of orange, a maraschino cherry, a dash of orange bitters, and some sugar or simple syrup in the bottom of a glass, add whiskey.  If you want to make yours the “proper” way, here is the link to Esquire’s recipe.

Now the fancy people up in NYC are crowning the Negroni the drink of the summer, http://www.esquire.com/blogs/food-for-men/negroni-cocktail-recipe-051911.  Alas, gin gives DBG a headache and Campari is a bitter pill to swallow.

And what does a proper gentleman wear while he sips his Old Fashioned?  Well, a seersucker suit, of course.  DBG won’t apologize, for some reason Atticus Finch pacing around the courtroom in his disheveled seersucker suit just does it for her. Gentlemen, seersucker is available at Cohn Turner and Carriages.  (Also check thrift stores.)

DBG might take home Bulwer-Lytton Fiction Contest award for best sex scene involving seersucker.  Here goes, “Even though it was hot enough to melt the magnolia blossoms, when she peeled off his seersucker jacket, no sweat lingered.  She thought, ‘gosh, seersucker breathes well.’ as she grappled at with the buckle of his brown leather braided belt.”

Happy Memorial Day Weekend,
